Confidently create your most successful online course

in 6 weeks

without the constant overwhelm, crippling tech hangups or distressing frustrations of not knowing what to do or where to begin.

If you’re new to the area of online education, or an experienced online educator in the area of higher education looking to create more engaging and successful online courses while also sparking joy and interest in your students then you already know that you will need to invest some time and effort into perfecting your craft.

I'm sure you already know that NOW is the time to refine your online teaching skills.

If you have had any exposure to teaching online, I'm sure you also know that it is not as easy as some think it is and requires the investment of time and energy to be successful.

As more technology is incorporated into higher education, I'm sure you realize how important it is to be knowledgeable and skilled at navigating the digital world successfully.

HERE'S WHAT YOU

MIGHT NOT KNOW

The ability to design, teach and manage an online course successfully can...

  • MAKE YOU MORE MARKETABLE

Understanding how to develop a successful online course will not only make you more marketable in a constantly evolving world, but it will also provide you with the skills needed to remain relevant in the academic environment, especially in light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
  • GIVE YOU MORE FLEXIBILITY

You can teach from anywhere in the world that has a stable internet connection. You could teach from the beach in Barbados if you wanted to (which is a goal of mine!)
  • PROVIDE YOU WITH DIVERSE AND ENRICHING EXPERIENCES

Teaching online means you are no longer teaching a course that is restricted by 4 walls and 1-2 hours of class time. You have the freedom to be creative with new learning experiences.
  • MAKE YOU MORE TECH SAVY

During the design and development of an online course you can become more comfortable and familiar with innovative technologies like video conferencing, animation and storyboarding, blogs and social media, and online gaming.
  • CREATE MORE OPPORTUNITY FOR INTERACTIONS

When you've done the work of designing the course, you can use the entire semester to interact with students, build relationships and reinforce ideas.

EVEN THOUGH THE REASONS TO CREATE AN ONLINE COURSE ARE OBVIOUS, THE PROCESS INVOLVED IN ACTUALLY CREATING ONE IS ANYTHING BUT!

BUILDING AN ONLINE COURSE SOUNDS GREAT!

BUT WHERE DO YOU BEGIN?

Perhaps you've taught an online course before and it started out fine, but then the grading became more than you could handle and you became overwhelmed. Or maybe you started setting up your online course and the technology became confusing and you became discouraged.

Here's why many educators abandon thoughts of teaching online:

Without a super clear, step-by-step plan or blueprint, most would-be online educators get completely lost.

It's easy to get caught up with time-consuming grading and the follow-up required in online education. Also, the tech involved in setting up and delivering your course can sometimes be so intimidating that many people don't even want to take the first step of learning or using it.

Here's why many educators abandon thoughts of teaching online:

As Ann already busy educator with other teaching, research and committee obligations, not to mention family and other personal responsibilities, you literally don't have the time to course correct mid-way through the semester.

And the moment you fall behind, in an online course, it's almost impossible to catch back up.

Therefore, preparing your online course in advance and following a step-by-step blueprint is the best way to guarantee success.

The 3 Myths People Believe About Teaching Online

1. MYTH- Teaching Online is Easy

FACT- Teaching online takes just as much work (sometimes even more) than teaching face-to-face.

People who believe this myth have either never taught online or have never taught online THE RIGHT WAY.

I don't want you to think that teaching online takes an inordinate amount of time either. As with anything, it takes a bit more time the first time you do it and then it becomes like second nature. This is especially true for teaching online because once you set the course up right, the second time you teach it, you will have a ready-made template to work from and your courses will just get better and better each time you teach it.

The reason it is important to understand that teaching online isn't easy is because you must be realistic about the situation. Walking into this understanding the commitment it will require from you will help throughout the process of course design and management.

2. MYTH- I have to be a Tech Genius to teach online successfully

FACT- You must be well organized, well prepared and willing to try new things in order to teach online successfully

I know that many people think that if they're not computer Savy or good with technology that they can't be successful teaching online. That is simply not true. No one expects you to be a tech genius, but there are some other traits that will help you to be successful teaching online.

For starters, you must be very well organized and prepared for teaching online. There was a funny meme going around during the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak when faculty were told to "put their classes online". The graphic was from a scene from The Lord of the Rings and the original quote said "One does not simply walk into Mordor), (for al my LOTR fans). But the new meme quote said, "One does not simply put a course online". This SOOO true. It takes a significant amount of organization and preparation to put a course together successfully.

Now, I don't want you to think that you don't need ANY technological know-how. But instead, it's more about being open-minded and willing to learn new things.

3. MYTH: Teaching online isn’t as effective as
teaching face-to-face.

FACT: Teaching online can be just as effective as teaching face-to-face (and even more in certain cases)

This myth is simply not true. I think that, unfortunately, there are many poor quality online courses out there. But there are a lot of poor quality face-to-face classes as well! The effectiveness of the class has less to do with the mode of instruction and more to do with the quality of the teaching.

The fact is, online courses can be very inspiring, engaging, and effective if we use the various strategies, resources and tools at our disposal.

The reality is that we are living in an age where we have the opportunity to re-imagine the way we deliver our content and assessments. You have the chance to bring your course work to life, literally and figuratively. What better way to effectively teach your course than to make it real for your students?

The good news is, you don't have to figure it all out on your own.

Even though there is a big push for online education in academia right now, not all resources are created equally.

Some resources teach you about course design but not about course management. Others teach you how to manage an online course but don't give you any ideas about effective content delivery or assessment strategies.

The key ingredient to all of this is a clear, sep-by-step blueprint.

And with your permission, that's what I'd love to share with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some questions you may have.

This training program was made for educators in the area of higher education who teach fully online for an academic institution. Since most of the examples and sample assignments come from my own online classes, nurse educators would get the most out of this course, but educators in any field can also find value in this program.

However, this course was not designed for things such as clinical courses that have transitioned to the online environment. Determining activities to replace clinical hours must meet specific regulations as laid out by accrediting bodies and are beyond the scope of this program.

This program was tailor-made for educators who teach using the Blackboard Learning Management System. Educators who use different Learning Management Systems may still find value in the program, HOWEVER, many of the step-by-step videos that will walk you through your course set-up will not be applicable to you. If you require assistance with the technical aspects of course set-up and do not teach using the Blackboard LMS, I DO NOT recommend using this program.

Not to worry. If you teach using the Blackboard Learning Management System, you can refer to the tailor-made Tech Library for assistance with all your tech needs from course set-up to course management.

This program is a hands-on, step-by-step guide that is action focused and will walk you through the actual process of setting up your course. Other programs focus more on the theory and concepts related to teaching online. While these are very valuable educational resources, this program focuses more on giving you the tools to fully design and implement your online course in 6 weeks.

This program occurs over a 6 week period of time. Each week we will focus on 1 Module at a time (except Week 1 where we will review both Modules 1 and 2). The course content will be released ONE MODULE AT A TIME (except for Modules 1 and 2 which will both be available to you during Week 1). At 8AM EST each Monday in the program, a new Module will be made available to you beginning on December 21, 2020.

Once you purchase the program, you will get instant access to Module 1 of the program which will provide you with an introduction and orientation to the program. During Week 1, both Modules 1 and 2 will be available to you. During Week 2, you will have access to Modules 1, 2, and 3. During Week 2, you will have access to Modules 1, 2 and 3, and so forth.

You will receive and invitation to attend a weekly webinar where I will answer all of your questions related to the Module we are all working on that week. You may submit your questions in advance using the indicated link found in your course library area.

If you are unable to attend the live webinar, not to worry! A recording of the webinar will be posted in the area where your course materials will be.

The time of the webinar and an invitation to attend will be shared in the program.

if you're unhappy with the program, you can receive a 14-day money back guarantee. Simply send me an email explaining what you are unhappy with about the program and I will process your refund. So there's no risk!

Of course! See the quick run down of all you get in the program below.
