Ice-Breaker Tuesday: The Personal Time Capsule

Today's featured ice-breaker is a fun and engaging way to encourage students to share about themselves and their aspirations. Here's how it works:

1. Introduction: Ask each student to imagine they are creating a personal time capsule that will be opened in 10 years. The capsule should represent who they are today and their hopes for the future.

2. Activity Details: Each student will select five items (real or imagined) to put into their time capsule. These items could include a photograph, a favorite song, a letter to their future self, an object representing a hobby or passion, and something that represents a current goal or dream.

3. Sharing in Class: Students record a VoiceThread sharing their chosen items and explain why they picked each one. Encourage them to discuss how these items reflect their personality, interests, and aspirations.

4. Reflection: In a discussion board follow-up activity, invite students to reflect on how this exercise made them feel about their current self and future. This can include discussions of their goals, dreams, and personal growth.

5. Optional Extension: You could have students actually create a digital version of their time capsule using a shared online document or presentation tool. They can add images, links to songs, and write their letters, which can be revisited at the end of the course or even years later.

This activity not only allows students to express themselves creatively but also fosters a sense of community as they learn about each other's hopes and dreams.
