Become an Innovative Online Nurse Educator

Assignment Spotlight: An Interactive Virtual Museum Activity

Nov 01, 2022

In today's assignment spotlight, I'll be highlighting a fun teaching strategy that focuses on an innovative way to engage students in an asynchronous online lecture. This activity was so fascinating to me that I featured the instructor in the November Innovative Online Educator membership as the month's Guest Innovative Online Educator! I can't wait to share more details about this fin assignment!

Educator Laurel Matthews shares her ideas about developing a "virtual museum" for an asynchronous online lecture. In this activity, students are asked to navigate through a virtual museum (a Google slide deck) that is designed to look like a real museum. She shares instructions with students through a video on the first slide, then students navigate through the museum by entering the elevator and choosing a floor to go to. On the floors they find different "galleries" or lectures that they can choose to attend. The galleries include different images or videos that are hyperlinked to instructor-made handouts. This is such a creative way to engage students in an asynchronous online lecture!
